Manual Lens Usage Beginner's Guide

1.Why does my Nikon camera show 'No lens installed'?

Answer: A manual lens needs to be set to M mode.Turn the disc on the top of the body to the M setting.Nikon D90-3000-5000 series use M mode, while Nikon D7000 and above models can use A mode (aperture priority).Because there are no metal circuit chips and contacts, and no aperture linkage, the camera body does not display aperture values.(Note: The aperture value of the manual lens is adjusted through the lens), you can ignore the error message F-00 on the camera.

2.Zheneng Digital SLR Camera EF Mount

Can operate in M and A modes.

3.Sony Mirrorless Series Settings

After installing the lens, if the LCD shows "Unable to recognize lens, please install the lens correctly," please reset the camera to "Allow shutter release without lens."Take Sony NEX-3/5 as an example, other cameras are similar: Menu> Settings> Release the shutter without a lens> Select "Allow"> Return.

4.FUJI FX Series Settings

After installing the lens, if the LCD shows "Cannot press the shutter, please install the lens correctly," please reset the camera to "Allow shutter release without lens."Take the Fuji X-A1 as an example; other camera models are similar: Menu> Settings> Release the shutter without a lens> Select "Allow"> Return.

5.Pentax PK Mount Camera Settings

Press the MENU button on the camera body to enter the settings menu, use the left arrow key to go to C Customization, check and adjust the value of "Allow Use of Aperture Ring" to "2" (Allow).

6.Canon EOS M Mirrorless Camera Settings

Menu> Settings> Custom Function (C.FnⅡ: Other)> Release the shutter without lens attached> Select "Enable"> Return.

7.Why do photos come out black? How to solve this issue?

A: Photos that are very dark are usually due to underexposure.Solution:

  1. Slow down the shutter speed;
  2. Increase aperture;
  3. Increase the ISO sensitivity.

8.Why do photos appear white when taken? How can this be resolved?

Answer: The photo being completely white indicates severe overexposure.Need to check:

  1. Is the ISO sensitivity too high?
  2. Is the shutter speed too slow?
  3. Is the aperture too large?

9. Why do manual lenses produce blurry images?

Answer: Blurring may be due to improper parameters.

  1. The shutter speed is too slow; it is recommended that the shutter speed not be lower than 80
  2. Shooting objects with motion blur;
  3. Hand shaking (most common cause).

10.How to focus?

Answer: First turn the focus ring to roughly focus, then use the LCD screen for precise focusing.There is a magnifying glass symbol on the body; after magnifying the image, rotate the focus ring to adjust clarity.Press the shutter button after seeing clearly.Warm reminder: It is recommended to use a tripod when shooting with a telephoto lens.

Suggestion: If there are still unclear points, it is recommended to systematically learn the basic theories of photography and the use of M-mode.
